Global Network Online Forum - Nov 2024

Dear all,

Thanks to everyone who made it to last week's Global Network Online Forum. Please find the link to the video recording here.

We spent some time using a reflective practice approach to look back at networks' recent Good Treatment Campaigns, thinking about what took place, what went well, and what learnings you had that you will take away for future campaigns. It was good to have an extended time of discussion in breakout rooms. Some of the key learnings which you mentioned were:

  • there is a need to engage people from multiple sectors/stakeholders, for example, families, schools, governments, local communities and community-based organisations

  • there is a desire for children to help to lead the campaign in terms of design and implementation and to learn about how to do this better

  • receiving information and resources further in advance of the campaign would be helpful, especially for churches which have a schedule set well in advance.

We would still love to hear some more details about the campaigns that took place this year. If you have not yet completed a feedback form, we would really encourage you to do so, either by completing the Word Document in English or Spanish and sending it back to Elin (e.miranda@viva.org) or by clicking on this link to complete the form online.

We then went on to think more broadly about how to use collective action programmes and events to bring in children who are not already in network projects, and especially how to make such programmes and events inclusive to children with disabilities. Some of the ideas you mentioned included:

  • using existing programmes such as Child Ambassadors to train children to reach out to other children who are not already part of the network

  • involving non-network members in the planning stage of events

  • using a family-wide approach to working with children - this may pull in other children in a family who are not yet reached by the network, including those with disability who may otherwise remain hidden

  • adapting programmes and developing materials specifically for children with disabilities, including inviting children to events in an inclusive manner

As always, we encourage you to continue the conversations that you started in this forum. If you are happy to share your contact details with other network coordinators to help these conversations happen, please complete the form below to give your permission:

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at our next Global Network Prayer Space on Wednesday, 27th November, and the next Global Network Online Forum on Wednesday, 11th December.
