We all know that children have rights, but how do we make sure those rights become a reality? Children should be valued and listened to, but how do we combat cultural mind-sets that value power and wealth and ignore and neglect the vulnerable?
So what can we do?
In Bolivia six of the city-wide networks are encouraging young people to become Child Leaders, through an innovative advocacy programme that spans the whole country.
They are empowering children to develop and run awareness-raising campaigns, organise radio interviews and newspaper articles, arrange talks in churches and schools and even write letters to church leaders and members of the Bolivian government, helping them moblise the adults of their nation to change children's lives.
In Kampala, Uganda, the network is working at a national and local level to see children kept safe, with everything from TV adverts and talent contests to grab media attention and raise awareness, to presenting petitions to the Ugandan government to see children's rights upheld.
We want to see a world where children are treated fairly, valued and respected, and we want to enable children to play a part in shaping the world in which they will grow up. We hope to see that become a reality as people and projects work together in partnership.
