Viva Equip People is one of Viva’s core training programmes. It has grown out of the Celebrating Children course, which was originally developed by Viva in conjunction with key international child development specialists and practitioners. Viva Equip People is a 128-hour course with a sound Biblical basis, which gives people practical childcare skills based on current academic theory around child development.

The training syllabus, which includes on-the-job mentoring, case studies, group work, home study tasks and individual assignments, covers the following modules:

1) Understanding the child in context
2) Issues in listening to children
3) Risk and resilience
4) Holistic mission to children
5) Working with children: practical issues
6) Child Protection and helping traumatised children
7) Development, evaluation and monitoring of programmes
8) Development of self and staff

Viva is a member of the Keeping Children Safe Coalition - bringing agencies together to share experience and knowledge, and to identify common approaches to child protection.  Our goal is to increase the safeguards offered to children, through improved child protection policies and practice within the agencies and authorities that work with children.

A Toolkit for Child Protection:

Tool 1 – Standards for Child Protection: a book which explains what the basic standards should be for all organisations working in child protection across the world.

Tool 2 – How to Implement the Standards: provides guidance and activities to help you and your organisation meet those standards.

Tool 3 – Training for Child Protection: a pack of flexible training exercises and materials to help you and your organisation train the staff to meet the standards.
