Helping children and young people thrive

In Oxford, UK, it may be surprising to hear but one in four children are living in poverty. Low self-esteem and mental health challenges are limiting their future aspirations.

Many families are struggling to meet the needs of their children, and the recent closure of children’s centres has left a large gap in support.

OUR APPROACH
Doorsteps is our partner network in Oxford. It was formed in 2015 following situational mapping to bring together different local groups and encourage a co-ordinated response to the needs of vulnerable children and young people.

WHAT WE DO
Doorsteps builds partnerships of hope in Oxfordshire, connecting churches and organisations to respond creatively and practically together to the needs of under-resourced children, young people, and families.

Our work involves Find Your Fire, a bespoke youth programme to raise resilience and self-esteem in young people. Then there’s Doorsteps Youth Work in and around East Oxford schools. In addition, we work with the County Council and Oxford Diocese on supporting Under 5s’ Provision in Oxfordshire. We’re also passionate about Supporting Churches in their work with children and young people. You can read the latest updates on the Doorsteps Blog.
